Australia is currently one of the best places to live and offers many advantages over other countries in terms of climate, work-life balance, scenery and house prices. With long, quiet, sandy beaches and a warm afternoon sun, there are few better places to relax and unwind. If that's not your scene however you can also check out safaris in the rain forests and jungles (with wildlife ranging from alligators to koala), the fantastic blue mountains, or the urbanised cities such as Sydney. This, coupled with the low cost of living, has resulted in a laid back environment that's spawned such phrases as ‘it'll be right' and ‘no worries'. The people are friendlier, and the working hours are shorter, and people generally have more time to enjoy their

All this, couple with the relatively affordable house prices (average home prices are generally in the £150,000GB/$310,000US mark), means that the area has survived the economic crisis relatively well as everyone struggles to move over to the country and escape their large mortgages and bad weather.

Such an influx of people obviously can't be allowed into ...
... the country without having something to offer however, and so getting an Australian visa has become notoriously difficult. However where Australia can be more accommodating is with skilled workers, as the country currently faces a dearth of them. This means that any carpenters, builders or plumbers stand a better than average chance of getting a place.

Those in the medical profession may also find themselves able to get an Australian visa. For this reason many individuals hoping to move to Australia with medical qualifications will sign up to locum recruitment agencies to find themselves a short term work where they're needed. The term ‘locum' means ‘place holder', which exactly describes the role of locum staff who are required to fill temporary vacancies.
Professions that regular have need of locum staff include dentist, chiropractor, midwife, optician, optometrist, paramedic, perfusion, pharmacist, physician or surgeon.

The advantage of locum positions for medical staff, particularly those moving country, is that they won't be committed to a single job for an indefinite time period. This is useful when hoping to demonstrate that you'll be working for the purposes of your visa without wanting to decide on a specific organisation immediately having never lived in the country. Working as a locum also has other benefits, giving individuals a wide range of experience that they wouldn't be able to achieve in a permanent position.

One disadvantage of locum work however is that the transient nature of permanently switching jobs can be stressful as the locum will constantly be unsettled and have to ‘fit in' to a new position. This can be made harder as locum staff are often resented by permanent staff who don't want to become attached and who feel they shoulder less responsibility. At the same time this can mean a lack of guaranteed income when locums are in between positions. However the major benefit of these factors is that the locum will be paid more in order to reflect this lack of security. For those looking to experience a large amount of Australia on a good salary with lots of spare time to relax then, locum medical work is one of the best options.

There are a lot of medical jobs in Australia, because of their current skills shortage. Joining medical locums are a great way to gain value medical experience in different locations.
