This is the reason why you need to rinse the rice grains in cold water many times before you cook it. Once you have rinsed Basmati rice, it is ideal to keep the grains soaked in water for at least 30 minutes.
Once you have drained the water fully, you should put them inside a medium saucepan. The water measurements must be taken correctly. The correct ratio is 2 cups of water for 1 cup of rice. This is the first rule for you to remember when you are cooking Basmati rice.
Once you have set the water and rice measurements correctly, the next step is to add a pinch of salt to the rice water and cover it tightly with a lid. In case, the lid that you have placed is not tight enough, you should cover the rice with an aluminum foil before you place the lid back on the rice water.

During the cooking process, you should not stir the rice. The approximate time for cooking the rice is 30 to 45 minutes. Once the cooking process is over, you should allow the rice to stand in the saucepan for about 5 minutes. After this time, the water should have been completely absorbed by the rice.
