Buying a Used Car? Read This!
If you are buying a used car keep the following points in mind:
If you are going to buy a pre-owned or used car, take test drive twice instead of once. It may require some extra time on your part but it is worth the effort because two drives will help you to evaluate the machine better. You can judge both –whether you enjoy riding this vehicle and whether it is running well. While taking your second test ride you can also take your personal mechanic along to get a better idea from a technical guy.
When you go to see a used car, check these 10 things before you decide to sit on the wheel.
Check health of all four tyres. Is the wear and tear looking even? Are all tyres of same company? Do all the tyres have a quarter of an inch of tread or more?
Open and close all the doors including trunk at the rear end gently several times to check the pressure you have to apply to close and open the door and whether the operation is smooth. You should check if locks operate fine from outside and inside. Also check if door hinges have caught rust or the edges could hurt. While ...
... checking trunk of vehicle that we use for keeping luggage generally has a carpet. You should lift the carpet to observe signs of rust.
You should also personally check if headlights, brake lights and turn signals are working. Similarly before you go on a test drive, see if all the functions like A/C, Heater, Music Sytem, Radio etc are in good condition or in the condition that you were told. Are there any vibrations or odd sounds? If you are a new driver and don’t understand all this, it is best to take a seasoned driver or mechanic along. If you don’t take these things into account you could fall prey to a big and costly repair soon after having bought the car.
If the car you’re buying has a hood, open hood while the engine is running to hear knock, ticks or hissing sounds. It may point at repairs and if you don’t check it, you may have to incur additional expense soon after having bought the vehicle.

If you are buying vehicle whose wheels have spikes, check through opening on the front wheel to check whether disc brake rotor are scored.
Look beneath (under) the car to check any leakage. You should carefully look into this aspect first by keeping the car is on mode and then in off mode.
Sit on your toes in front corner of the car and look straight down along one side at a time, if body needs any repair, you will be able to see it clearly.

After finding most things acceptable when you finally sit on the wheel for taking a test drive, speed up the car to 60 miles per hour. This speed will bring all the hidden sounds to the fore and tell you the true state of car. Notice if the any part in the car or its steering shakes or vibrates or makes off sounds when you raise the speed or start the car. When you accelerate does the car tend to go on one side? You should also make sure that transmission shift is smooth. Brake pedal should also be smooth.
By keeping the above points in mind and thoroughly checking various aspects while buying a pre-used car your experience with your new vehicle will be good.
