There are many possible side effects to medical drugs. You need to know the adverse reactions and toxic effects of the medication if you are intending to take or already taking medical drugs. Adverse drug reactions are described by the undesired reactions that our body shows in response to a drug. One should realize that medical drugs are far from safe and you should take them under the supervision of a health professional. Many people think that taking medical drugs is the best way to cure their health issues.
This, in many situations, is not the case and there are other alternatives available to people. Through drug forums, it is possible to create awareness among people so they know the side effects and adverse reactions of taking the medical drugs. These online drug forums or newsgroups are excellent places for individuals to share their opinions, ideas, feelings and experiences about toxic effects and reactions of medical drugs.
Symptoms that are associated with the adverse drug reactions can be divided into three categories namely uncomfortable, severe and life threatening. There is a long list of uncomfortable ...
... side effects including general fatigue, weakness, dry mouth, acne, constipation, dizziness, headaches, tremors, sweating, dizziness, drowsiness, blurred vision, confusion, weight gain, headaches and abdominal pain. Severe reactions may include nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, itching, rashes, development of ulcers, tightness and swelling in the lungs etc.
If we talk about life threatening adverse reactions, drugs may cause kidneys failure, toxicity in the gastro-intestinal tract, affect the blood cells, skin and unborn baby. Individual reactions might include drug accumulation within the body, hypersensitivity, destruction of Vitamins and minerals within the body, drug interactions and allergic reactions. An allergic response to a particular drug forms the majority of the adverse drug reactions which may lead to the skin rashes that can be purple or red in color and they can be raised, flaky and itchy.
The possibility of adverse drug reactions might be influenced by number of factors. When a person is taking two or three drugs at a time, there is more likelihood that there will be an interaction between these drugs. Also, the age of the person taking the drugs is a matter of concern as children and elderly require less drug dosages as compared to adults and matures. This is due to the fact that children and elderly have reduced ability to detoxify and metabolize the drugs. They require accurate dosages that are according to their age, weight and physical condition. For heart patients, a very toxic drug named Digitalis is prescribed according to person's age and body weight. Another factor that is very important in this regard is metabolic differences between men and women as women only require ¾ of the male dose. This factor should be considered when women are prescribed drugs and counter medications.
The adverse drug reactions might be triggered by the disease state itself, sometimes giving rise to life threatening situations. If a person is experiencing liver diseases such as cirrhosis or hepatitis (B & C), it is more likely that drugs will accumulate within the body as proper detoxification wouldn't be carried out by the liver. Similarly, an individual who has allergic reactions to food, dust, pollens, perfumes or other compounds may have adverse reactions to drugs. Recent researches revealed that the possibility of an adverse reaction to drugs may increase by using alcohol, opium, heroin, cigarettes and tranquilizers. Some people have unique genetic make-up and this may lead to individual reactions to different drugs. Drugs might be accumulated within the body if a person has some kidney problem and he or she is consuming digitalis. The sensitivity of the heart muscles is increased to digitalis toxicity if an individual has low level of potassium in the presence of digitalis.
Around the globe, many people believe that taking prescription drugs is the only option open to them. However, in many cases, it is not true. It is very important to create awareness about the side effects and adverse reactions of the drugs among people. A medical drug forum is an excellent place for the people to get knowledge about the side effects of the drugs. These online forums provide people with opportunities to have chat about drugs and share their experiences, feelings and opinions. Medical drug forums require a user to get registered which is usually free. All you need to do is to create a user name and password and provide a valid e-mail address. Once you are registered, you can participate in the discussion and get information or share opinions, experiences and feelings.
