Aerated Concrete Blocks (AAC) is nowadays widely preferred all over the world due to its superlative features over other traditional construction material. Over that AAC Blocks are eco friendly also as it uses fly ash. Fly ash is a thermal power waste material which causes environmental pollution. So consuming the same for the making of AAC Blocks reduces the pollution that’s why is also referred as a green building material.

There are various advantages of Aerated Concrete Blocks over traditional red clay bricks, that’s why since 1980 AAC Blocks has becomes the best substitute over red clay bricks as a construction material. Just have a look how AAC Blocks are better than traditional clay bricks:-

• Cost Saving: - AAC Blocks reduces the overall construction cost by 3% as these are lighter in weight than bricks which reduces the labor and transportation cost. The light weight reduces the overall weigh of the structure allowing construction of taller buildings.

• Precision in Size: - The AAC Blocks is more accurate in size ...
... than the clay bricks, AAC Blocks are produces with wire cut technology making its size more accurate. Over that it can also be provided with the exact required size.

• Strength: - AAC blocks can withstand greater load than clay bricks as it has higher compressive strength.

• Fire Resistant: - The melting temperature of AAC blocks is 1600 degree centigrade, making it more fir resistant. The air voids in AAC Blocks makes it better fire resistant than bricks.

• Acoustic Performance: - Due to porous structure of blocks AAC has a Superior sound absorption qualities Offers sound attenuation of about 42 dB, blocking out all major sounds and disturbances.

AAC block is Ideal for schools, hospitals, hotels, offices, multi-family housing and other structures that require acoustic insulation.

• Earthquake Resistant: - AAC Blocks are 4 times lighter than the clay bricks which reduces the structural weight making it more resistant to earth quakes.
Now the question arises, how the Aerated Concrete Blocks are eco friendly and why it is called as green building material? For the answer check the below mentioned points:-

1. Soil Consumption: - One square feet of carpet area with clay bricks consumes 25.5 kgs of top soil.

Whereas AAC Blocks are made up of fly ash, there is no need of top soil, thus saving more fertile soil for the country.

2. Material Used: - The main ingredient of clay bricks is the top soil.

Whereas AAC Blocks uses fly ash as 70% of its weight. The usage of fly ash in this venture allows us to utilize the pollutant which is a waste material from thermal plants.

3. Fuel consumption: - Around 8 Kgs of coal is required to produce one square feet of carpet area with clay bricks, AAC Blocks requires just 1 kg of coal for producing the same quantity.

4. Requirement of Water: - High in clay bricks as it needs curing before use.

Minimal in AAC Blocks as it needs only surface wetting before use.

5. CO2 Emmis ion: - While making one square feet of carpet area with clay bricks , it emits around 18 Kgs of CO2
Whereas AAC Blocks emits only 2.2 Kgs with the same quantity.
