How To Find Cheap Student Discount Flights

The perfect time to fly to a great location is during a break in school. You need to get away and enjoy some time exploring a foreign country or exotic location. Getting the best student discount flights to make the trip easy and cheap will be easy if you follow a few simple steps. Having more money to spend when you land will make your trip a lot more fun.
You've got several choices when you want to get a student discount flight. You can go through a travel agency, use an on-site student discount club, or call the airlines yourself. The online student discount clubs usually charge a fee to join, but also have vacation packages that have student discounts as well. Before you commit to an agency or club, be sure that you are getting the kind of discount you want for an affordable fee.
Each airline offers different student flight discounts. Some airlines give as much as 11% off on their student discount flights. Call the ticket agent for each airline and tell them you want the student discount rate before you tell them the location you are going. That way they will get the right screen up and you won't have to wait ...
... while they close their system to get to the student screen.
This is important. There are only a certain number of student discount seats allocated for each flight. The airlines do not add more discount seats because it is a holiday or break. If you want to make sure that you are getting the student discount rate, call and make your reservation early. As soon as you know that you are going somewhere call and get your reservation. Besides getting the student discount, you will also be able to take advantage of a lesser cost for the flight. Most airlines take reservations up to six months ahead of time so you will save money by making an early reservation.
There are other ways to get an even greater discount. If you make your reservation for a date and time that is not "peak" you can get a significant discount. Non-peak flights are usually between Tuesday and Thursday. Flying at the time of day when the tickets are cheapest will also reduce the cost of your ticket. When you add your discount to the lower priced ticket, you can usually get your round trip ticket for the cost of a one-way regular ticket.
Rates for tickets change on Wednesday nights. When you are planning your trip, make your reservation early in the week. When there is a change in oil prices, the cost of tickets can go up significantly on a Wednesday night. By making your reservation early and at the cheapest price, you can avoid this price changes for your trip.
Most airlines have a "change" fee clause. This is a kind of insurance that you can get and if you change your reservation there is no added fee. Ask about this insurance if you think you may be changing your reservation. The cost to change a reservation can be very expensive so making sure what the fees will be to make the change will save money and time.
Usually the ticket agent will need you to fax a copy of your current student ID to apply the discount to your ticket. Have the fax ready to send and you can take are of it right there. Another option is to scan your student ID into your computer and email it to the ticket agent. Most airlines will accept the emailed copy of your student ID. When you have taken the steps to fully take advantage of your student discount flights and other discounts offered by the airlines, you will have money to start spending as soon as you land!
