Develop A Plan To Achieve Your New Year Resolutions
Each New Year people around the world make resolutions and make a commitment to make changes in their lives. But how effective are resolutions really?
Do YOU achieve your New Year resolutions? If you do, you are in the minority. Surveys suggest that less than one percent of resolutions are ever attained, and that New Year is just a ritual people have performed for years.
So the question is, "Do you actually want to make changes in your life?" If you do, then you need to prepare a plan to achieve the changes you desire. As the quote goes, if you fail to plan you plan to fail.
And developing a Plan to achieve a goal is very simple. Just try these 4 steps.
1. See
See the situation or habit as it currently is. Describe it, define it and analyze it.
2. Think
Think about what you want instead of the current situation or how you want to change an existing habit. What would the new situation or habit look like? Who is involved in the situation or habit? Who needs to be involved to make the change? Who will benefit from the change? How will you convince those involved to go along with ...
... the change?
3. Plan.
What steps do you need to take to make the change? Study the various aspects of your plan. Check for feasibility, viability and possibility. Set a due date for your plan.
4. Act.
Implement the first step of your plan. When you have acted on the first step of your plan, you go back to step 1 again.
Firstly, See - what is the current situation or habit after taking the first step? Has the action you took in Step 4 created the change you wanted? Are you happy with the result? If the answer is 'Yes,' continue to follow the plan created, one step at a time. If the answer is No, go through steps 2 to 4 again.
So, Think. What didn't work? What do you need to change to get the result you want? Who do you need to talk with to help you? Continue to analyze the current situation or habit until you have thoroughly analyzed the outcome of your initial action.
Then Plan. What changes are required? Who needs to be involved? When all aspects have been analyzed, Act and then return to step 1 again.
Accomplishing goals is that simple. When people do not achieve their goals it is not because the goal was bad it is because there is no effective Plan to achieve it, or there is no action on the plan and no analysis of the results of the plan.
When you know that what you're doing is right, nothing will be able to stop you from achieving your goals.
