Dogs could be infected with scabies by the mite that is burrowed into the dog's skin. Such mite would complete its life cycle of 21 days and then spread to the other parts of the body. In not treated in time, the mites continue to spread all over the dog's body, however these mites not be able to live on the human host. Humans happen to be the accidental hosts to such mites.

If one infected dog comes into contact with another, the infection is likely to spread. Therefore it is imperative t keep the dog's environment clean and all mites must be removed from the body since they can spread through direct or indirect contact. The symptoms of the condition on the dog's body appear on the ears, elbows, chest and the abdomen. Such symptoms include red bumps, usually known the popular eruptions, which could be extremely itchy. These bumps can harden or become crusty in case if the dog keeps scratching them. In a few severe cases, the dog might also become thin and appear unhealthy.

The diagnosis is done through the symptoms. Several other methods such as skin sampling would be unreliable since well groomed dogs have a ...
... condition called Incognito Scabies. In such a condition, if the dog is well maintained, it would test negative and therefore assessment is made by visually looking at the skin with a magnifying glass. One of the best ways to treat the dog with scabies would be to use a medicated shampoo to kill the mites as well as use a lime-sulphur dip.
