Youngest Patient Undergoes Gastrectomy Surgery By Dr. Muffazal Lakdawala

Jayesh Malukani is probably one of the youngest patients that Dr. Muffazal Lakdawala has had to perform a sleeve gastrectomy surgery on. Jayesh Malukani is a 17 year old boy, who studies in the XIIth grade. All his life Jayesh has harbored a strong passion for dance. Even a 180 kilo frame could not deter the young man from following his dream. The Jaipur youngster auditioned for a TV dance show and was selected too. However, it wasn't too long before the judges would decide to oust him as they felt that he was not able to perform a variety of steps due to his obese frame. Jayesh was so deeply affected by the entire episode that he finally decided that he had to lose weight. Jayesh has been affected by obesity from the time he was 11 years old. At such a tender age Jayesh was already tipping the scales to 100 kilos. The youngster only felt good about his life when he was dancing as he had to put up with taunts while at school.
Dr. Muffazal Lakdawala initially refused surgery on the boy considering his age. However, after taking into account the fact that the young boy had already developed diabetes and hypertension, Dr. ...
... Muffazal Lakdawala reconsidered his decision and went ahead with the surgery. Within four months of the sleeve gastrectomy surgery Jayesh has already lost 42 kilos. He is extremely proud of himself. Dr. Muffazal Lakdawala too is very impressed with the progress made by Jayesh and the amount of weight he has lost after the surgery. Dr. Muffazal Lakdawala advises that the surgery should only be offered as an option to those for whom it is a medical necessity. The procedure for sleeve gastrectomy includes reducing the size of the stomach down to 15% of its original size. A major portion of the stomach is removed during the surgery following the major curve. The surgery should ideally be performed on patients who are extremely obese and whose body mass index is 40 or more, where the risk of performing a gastric bypass or duodenal switch procedure is way too high. Jayesh is grateful to Dr. Muffazal Lakdawala for his new life and feels capable of trying a wider variety of dance steps. For the future, Jayesh Malukani plans to participate one more time in the same show but with the ambition of winning it.
