Danny The Dragon Author Nominated For Prestigious Book Award

Children's author, researcher, and humanitarian Tina Turbin (http://TinaTurbin.com) has been honored as a Finalist in the prestigious National Best Books 2009 Awards for her celebrated children's book, Danny the Dragon Meets Jimmy (http://DannyTheDragon.com), in the Best Children's Picture Book category. The winners and finalists of the book contest, sponsored by USA Book News, were announced recently on USABookNews.com, the preeminent online magazine and review website for both mainstream and independent publishing houses.
"This is quite an honor," Turbin says regarding the nomination. "[Illustrator] Aija Jasuna has certainly done an amazing job and this was quite a beautiful collaboration."
Turbin has been busy this year promoting her book and working on related projects. She recently announced the debut of the Danny the Dragon DREAMS CD on October 30 at a very special Halloween family concert at Pasadena City College in Pasadena, California. The CD (proceeds will go to the Celiac Disease Research Center at the Columbia University Medical Center) will contain a reading of the book by a talented vocal artist, ...
... followed by a compilation of ten original classic songs by up-and-coming composers.
Turbin, a passionate celiac advocate (http://GlutenFreeHelp.info), was diagnosed with celiac disease, which is caused several years ago by an allergic reaction to gluten, a component of wheat, barley, and rye. An estimated 300 million Americans have it and only three percent of them know it. By simply deleting this protein from their diets, sufferers of celiac disease can finally get relief for their variety of physical and mental symptoms.
A literacy advocate, Turbin, alarmed by the literacy statistic among the deaf, has recently begun raising support for education for deaf children. Turbin will feature at the concert part of her soon-to-be-released Danny the Dragon DVD, a signed reading of the book for deaf children. Half the proceeds of this project will be donated to the local deaf children's school, Blossom's Montessori School for the Deaf in Clearwater, Florida as well as other Causes she supports.
Turbin's book was the 2nd place winner for the 2009 Arizona Literary Contest and Book Awards, announced at a grand banquet on November 7 in Glendale, Arizona. Tina was unable to attend yet was extremely honored to receive this award in the category of Children's Literature.
In honoring author Tina Turbin, the National Best Books 2009 Awards has selected not only a gifted children's author with a popular, magical book, but also a generous and talented humanitarian whose charity and good works are an example to authors of all genres.
