Business in itself is a fast-paced environment that will not wait for those who struggle to keep up. A good business day can keep you so busy that you have to juggle a lot of things in your to-do list throughout the day. But with modern technology, small-to-medium sized businesses are now able to compete globally through outsourcing. Subcontracts allow companies to have fixed monthly pre-set amounts of expenses since maintenance is not necessary.

Companies often choose to invest in IT outsourcing when they don't have resources such as hardware or infrastructure access, staff and other capabilities. The usual IT categories being outsourced include but do not limit to the following:

• Basic support services – This is when clients ask and receive basic support for their mobile device, printing or network connectivity.
• Data center operations – This refers to all performed computing and non-computing processes, and the workflow within a data center.
• Web design functions – Some web designers cover all areas of web design, but oftentimes designers focus on different aspects of the design process ...
... such as web graphic design, interface design, user experience design, authoring and even search engine optimization (SEO).
• Disaster recovery – This area refers to how a company deals and protects itself from potential disasters.
• Security management – This element of network management comprises of functions that control and protect an organization's assets.
• Virus protection – This includes programs that detect, prevent, search for and remove viruses, worms, Trojans, adware and more.
• Data backup and recovery – This process refers to backing up data and setting up systems that allow data recovery in case of a loss.
• Network architecture – This refers to a network's layout that consists of hardware, software, connectivity, communication protocols and mode of transmission.

When you outsource, you are technically employing an expert in a certain field and buying their time to help you complete all essential tasks that need to be done and scratch certain items off your to-do list. As a business, however, you need to have a clear idea on what tasks to delegate or outsource.

So what are the common things to prepare before outsourcing?

Your to-do list should be reduced to more specific tasks in order to be successful in outsourcing. As an example, the two most important items to consider before you outsource are security and cost. To keep your business secure, you should know what specific projects or tasks to outsource. Don’t forget that outsourcing means third party engagement. Hiring programmers could generate serious security issues when it's not handled right especially when hackers intervene. Germany even enacted an anti-hacker law to keep any programmierer involved in hacking assaults.

One of your top considerations and probably the largest factor each time you hire someone to be part of your company is the cost. While both in-house and outsource costs are fixed, the former does not provide guarantees like the latter does. When you outsource, you hold a contract that secures you a refund should the outsourced services are not delivered.

In general, outsourcing lets you see a more foreseeable estimate of the expenses which could save costs easily. As for businesses with minimal general experience in IT, stick with the basics initially such as outsource programmers, server, software, data storage needs, customer support and maintenance requirements. And no matter what services you outsource, make sure that you don’t compromise the quality of the work.
