5 Amazing Real Life Locations Where The Game Of Thrones Is Filmed

Did you know that a single episode of the Game of Thrones was downloaded more than 4.5 million times? And that the series remains the most pirated TV series ever? Yes, the blood, gore, and nudity-filled fantasy series has loyal fans around the world ready to scale new heights of craziness. While some spend time plotting crazy theories, others go tracing filming locations of the series. If you are a diehard fan and wondering where is the Game of Thrones filmed, here’s a list of some of the amazing sites:
Dubrovnik:
Season 2 of the series were filmed here. It is the place of the King’s Landing- the capital and the most happening place in the Seven Kingdoms. If you aren’t the adventurous type keen on hunting the locations on your own, I’d suggest you take a guided tour. There are several GoT guided tours, ranging from an hour and a half walking tour to a full five-day tour of all the sites. Some of the notable locations include The Keep and Blackwater Bay, the Red Keep, the place where Joffrey weds Margaery, and the iconic scene where Cersei is shorn and paraded naked before a jeering crowd.
Ston:
Some ...
... of the fortification around King’s Landing was filmed around the famous Walls of Ston. The walls are twice as long as the ones you’ll find in Dubrovnik. In fact, they were once called the European Wall of China.
Sibenik:
Season 5 of the series was shot in the small medieval town of Sibenik in Croatia. This is the hometown of the Braavosi race. It is the city of Braavos that shields Arya Stark. Look closely and you’ll come across the House of Black and White (shot at the St. James Cathedral in Sibenik) - complete with the many faces sculpted on the outer walls of the house.
Split:
Remember Daenerys’s deadly dragons? Or, the scene where the Unsullied ambush the Sons of the Harpy (Season 5)? Some of the scenes related to the city of Meereen (also misspelled Mereen) were shot in Split.
Mourne Mountains:
The Tollymore Forest Park features several times in the Game of Thrones, notably when a family of Wildings is found dead, or when Theon is chased on a horse by the ironborn men. The park covers around 600 hectares and is ideal for hiking, cycling, and other outdoor activities.
