Step down transformer is one whose secondary power is less than the primary one. It is specially designed to step down the voltage to the level which is required for the smooth performance of the devices. It is really helpful to switch high-voltage, low current into low-voltage, high current power. There are so many different types of transformers available in the market, which is really helpful to provide the required amount of voltage to your electric device, but among all, step down is highly in demand because of its countless features.

These are highly durable, reliable, contain high current power, required less investment and repairing cost and have a long-lasting operational life. Apart from this, these are also corrosion free and have a robust structure which makes it very useful in various industries. You can easily purchase it from the market at a wallet-friendly price, but before you invest your precious money in purchasing this you need to check whether it is correct for your industry or not. Following are some tips which help you to check your step down transformer.

First of all, remove all the wires ...
... from the transformer terminals by using screwdrivers or any other tool. Identify the wires if they are not already identified.

Secondly, you need to turn the volt ohmmeter to the “ohms” position and place the red lead and then touch another black lead to the metal frame of the step down transformer.

After that, you can touch the red lead to the terminals in following the order: H1, H2, X1 and then X2. If the meter doesn’t read infinite ohms and create any trouble then definitely there is an internal error within the windings and you have to replace it.

After the above three steps, you need to check the continuity of each coil by using the ohmmeter. If the wires are broken, then you need to replace your transformer.

Last but not the least you need to use the ohmmeter to conduct the transformer isolation circuit. And if any resistance read on the meter other than a wide-open circuit, then the isolation of the transformer is of bad quality and must be replaced.

All the above points will really helpful to choose the correct transformer, or even helps to check its quality. Apart from this to choose the right product don’t forget to check its ISO certification which ensures its quality. These steps down transformers are really helpful just you need to check the quality and requirement of your industry.
