Late night cravings is common to most of us. Someone hallucinate of ice-cream, some of pav bhaji, and some of a hot cup of tea. Whatever it is, something has to be gulped down at that odd hour to satisfy our tummy or rather the tongue. Let's have a look as to why these cravings give us their sweet visits.

Acquired behavior- If you have noticed, these cravings mostly visit when you are disturbed or lacking sleep. This is actually an acquired behavior. In childhood we were offered sweets or our favorite food when we used to throw tantrums. We were given sweetened milk to lull us to sleep. And that is where we have acquired this habit of having food at odd hours and when in odd moods.

Hormonal imbalance- There are number of hormones that are into play within us. A hormone called Ghrelin drives us for food, whereas leptin signals satiety. This hormones act as check to one another. However in some abnormal physiological conditions like lack of sleep, mental disturbances, etc., the creation of these hormones suffer imbalance which leads to the cravings.

Sensory stimulation- Sensory stimulations like seeing an ...
... appetizing plate or smelling freshly baked cake leads to hunger drive. After a busy day, you get to relax only late at night. That is the time your senses get chance to interact with the environment. Some sweet smell of oven-baked cake hits your nostrils while you are watching cooking show in the TV or just hit upon a food advertisement. Ahh. What can be the better situation for hunger to strike.
