Corporate messaging involves a number of factors which must be considered carefully. A company has to keep in mind of who they are, what they are selling and what differentiates them from their competitors. This must be visible in the message that is crafted. Such messages are targeted at the individuals who will purchase your goods and services. It is a part of any reputation management strategy to ensure that the corporate message designed is effective. The do’s and don’ts that must be kept in mind when designing a corporate message are:

Do’s
Understand Your Target Audience
The first thing that any business should do before creating their message is to understand their audience. It is only after having a detailed understanding of one’s audience can an effective message be created. For any reputation strategy to work, a business needs to understand that the message they create should be understandable by their target audience. For that their needs and wants and the behavioral pattern needs to be studied in detail.

Choose the Right Medium
After ...
... understanding their target audience, the correct medium for their message should be chosen. Different audiences consume media from different mediums. For example, customers between the age of 15 to 25 years are more likely to consume television or social media as compared to newspapers and magazines. Hence none of the reputation management strategies will work unless the correct medium is selected to communicate the message effectively.

Honest and Direct
Finally, the message that is created by the business should be honest and direct. The attention span of the audience is extremely low especially when it comes to advertisements and paid messages by brands and businesses. To keep the audience interested and willing to read the message created, the business must ensure it is concise, direct and honest.

Don’ts

Avoid False Promises
A business should never provide their customers with false promises of any sort. If the business is caught it their lie, it can seriously affect their reputation in the eyes of the customers. A business should always maintain a honest and truthful relation with their customers.

Never Ignore Feedback
All business should adhere to the feedback they receive from their target audience. This feedback must be used to fine tune the corporate message being sent out.

No reputation management strategy can work if the business does not create effective corporate messages. It is not only important to understand what you want to say but also how to package it in such a manner that your target audience understands it. It is only with a lot of research, trial and error and constant feedback can effective corporate messages be created.
