Stop Smoking Gum

You are not a cold turkey kind of gal, you have already decided that. You need help in the form of strong, loving friends, a daily dose of chocolate and gum. Lots and lots of gum. Will you use the regular gum and pray that you can make it through each day without strangling the first smart aleck that makes a wise crack, or will you be more sensible and use the nicotine gum? (For the sake of the necks of all the smarty pants around you, I hope you opt for the latter.)
The nicotine gum comes in two strengths, 2mg and 4mg of nicotine. Which one you choose will depend on many factors: how much do you smoke each day, how well do you control cravings now, how dedicated are you to your successful quitting. Once those questions have been answered, then you can decided not only how strong the dosage should be, but how often you should allow yourself to chew a piece of gum. Of course, you should read all the warnings and instructions on the box, and consulting your doctor is a good idea as well.
Depending on the brand that you buy, the gum comes in several different flavors, but I have heard complaints that ...
... the gum was gritty or that it did not hold together like regular gum would. Of course, regular gum does not deliver nicotine to your system either, so it's a trade off. You can have good chewing texture, or the nicotine, your choice.
Most boxes of the nicotine gum will have an insert which will help you set up a gum schedule as well as the signs and triggers that you might need to take an extra piece. There are just times in our lives when additional stress just makes us crazy, times that makes some of us pop our knuckles, or pace or smoke. If you know your triggers then you can work to avoid them, or you can have a plan in action to handle them without lighting up. Some people choose to chew regular gum in between doses of the nicotine gum to keep their mouth occupied and to keep from overeating, but that is a personal choice, entirely up to you. Whatever you do though, do not smoke while you are chewing the gum, the extra nicotine can be enough to make you nauseas or dizzy.
Some people do not like the gum schedule, but it would seem more logical to know that at such and such a time you will have this piece of gum- it would replace that cigarette that no matter how much you deny your body had you scheduled to crave anyway. You may not like setting a schedule, but you were letting something inanimate and frankly dangerous set the schedule for you. Take back the control of your life and your health. Quit smoking, do it today. If the gum can help you accomplish it, then you need to get hold of a box of it and chew away.
