Tips On Completing A Physical Therapy Graduate Program

To be able to complete a physical therapy (PT) graduate program, you need to know the pre-requisites before applying for the program. This article will guide you on the requirements so that you would be well prepared before entering physical therapy graduate program.

1. Bachelor's Degree

You need to complete a bachelor's degree before beginning your PT course. You must ensure that your degree is from a college or university that is accredited in the US.

2. Minimum Grade Point Average (GPA)

The minimum GPA requirements is at least 3.0 over your upper division course work. If you have advanced degrees, you may be able to use your most recent upper division or graduate credits that you have completed.

3. Graduate Record Exam (GRE) or Miller Analogies Test (MAT)

You are required to take either the GRE or MAT before applying for PT program.

4. Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) Requirements

If you are an international student, you would be required to complete the TOEFL exam with minimum total score of 550 (paper based) and 213 (computer based). Please note that the ...

5. Experience in Physical Therapy

Before applying for a PT program, you must have experience and exposure to the actual work as a physical therapist. You must complete this under supervision of a licensed PT and it should not be more than five years ago. The minimum hours to be completed is 80 hours, and must be in at least two separate practices. Please get a reference letter from your PT who supervised you when you have completed the experience.

6. Reference Letter

Three reference letters are required for the application. Two of these letters would come from your PT who supervised you, and another letter is from your lecturer who had directly taught you. The reference letter must be submitted in a sealed envelope, and comes with a signature across the seal.
