San Francisco Golden Gate Park & De Young Museum:
De Young Museum is a permanent museum with a section that houses temporary exhibitions. De Young Museum was opened in January 1921 as a part of the California Midwinter International Exposition of 1894, the museum has a very diverse collection of art including paintings, pre-Hispanic works from Teotihuacan. Peru, and tribal art from Africa. De Young Museum is also home to exhibitions of the American decorative pieces, textiles, and paintings from the Rockefeller Collection of American Art. Many locals and visitors enjoy a coffee, breakfast or lunch in De Young Museum's restaurants and café overlooking the backyard and its interesting collection of Statues. Don't miss the last and 9th story of the museum that offer spectacular views over the Golden Gate Park.
San Francisco Legion of Honor:
San Francisco Legion of Honor is pure example of classic art located in the north west of San Francisco. The Legion of Honor was designed after the Palais de la Legion d'Honneur of Paris (which stands next to the famous Orsay Museum and located on the left bank of ...
... the Seine River in Paris).
What kind of Statues is found in the front yard of the Legion of Honor?
What they represent. In the center, there is a fountain that remind us of Versailles n France, on the left side of the San Francisco Legion of honor(as you face the museum) stands the statue of Joan of Arc, in the center , you see the statue of Rodin called the The Thinker . The original one (le penseur) is found in Rodin museum in Paris, France. On the right side found the equestrian of El Cid designed by Anna Hyatt Huntington. On the right side of the Fountain is found the Holocaust Memorial. From this Angel, we can picture the Golden gate bridge, San Francisco skyline and the twin peaks. As you leave the Legion of Honor driving through Lincoln Park Golf Course, take right and enjoy Miley Park, it offer picturesque views over the Pacific Ocean rugged coastline, the seals rock and the cliff house.
San Francisco Golden Gate Park Windmill:
Why this Dutch-style windmill in the western side of the Golden Gate Park?
In 1901, John McLaren and San Francisco Golden Gate Park administration decided to build a windmill in the western side of the Golden Gate Park, right by the Pacific Ocean. This strategic location on the windy Pacific Ocean side generates enough wind to run this new windmill to pump water for to irrigate the Golden Gate Park flowers and trees. You can picture the Windmill from different angels: from the Cliff House, from Sutro Park, from the Pacific, and right next to the windmill in the Golden Gate Park to admire the picturesque flowers such tulipsIn 1903, this windmill has been restored to its original appearance as a gift from Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands. This Windmill is located hundred of yards south of famous Cliff House. From the windmill you walk or bike to explore other wonders in San Francisco Golden Gate Park including the botanical garden, the San Francisco Japanese Tea Garden, De Young Museum, The Academy of science and much more.
San Francisco Marina District:
The Marina District is the area located between the Bay from the northern side, Fort Masson & Van Ness (east), Lombard Street North, and Crissy Field & the Golden Gate Bridge from the west.
Marina Districts sands on a landfill created after the earthquake 1906. But also, there neighborhood sits on the site of the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition. Today, only the palace of fine arts still standing there witness the golden era of the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition. We got to admit that San Francisco was in need of such international fair to bring business back to San Francisco after the destructive earthquake and fire occurred back in 1906.
The area was basically created out of the rubble dumped into San Francisco Bay during and after the earthquake of 1906. Marina became today one of the top desired districts to live. However, the area is very expensive and not every one can afford it!
