Aromatherapy History

Aromatherapy has been in practice since the early 1900's but originated from Europe. Egyptians, Greeks and Romans used aromatherapy for medical and spiritual uses. Egyptians used aromatherapy for massage, bathing, and medicine. Greeks learned their knowledge from the Egyptians about healing and relaxation techniques and used herbs and aromatherapy oils for medicines and cosmetics. Hypocrites, the father of medicine, studied about herbs and scented plants and used them to benefit the health of the wealthy. The Romans learned about aromatherapy from the Greeks and later were known for their fragrant baths and scented oil massages. The Roman Empire built a huge data category of over 500 herbal plants! ...
... After the fall of the Roman Empire, aromatherapy was lost for a long time and then Europe started using aromatherapy in the 1920's. Americans started to discover aromatherapy in the1980's. Today, scents and essential oils are used in many cosmetics and medicine.

Essential oils are aromatic essences that are concentrated extractions from flowers, plants, leaves, fruits, trees, bark, grasses, roots and seeds that are used in aromatherapy. Children who are under five should be careful in using aromatherapy, as they might be sensitive to using the oils. If you have asthma, or another chronic illness or condition, consult with your doctor if it is safe for you to practice aromatherapy. If you have high blood pressure, or are epileptic, it is best ask your doctor if it is safe to practice aromatherapy at home. If you spill any essential oil on your skin, thoroughly wash skin as quickly as possible. Don't apply essential oils close to your eyes, which could cause irritation.
