The downward spiral of Indian education has been persistent despite of several initiatives in India. The quality of learning and education at schools in the country is constantly declining, especially in rural areas. As indicated by Annual Status of Education Report (ASER) in 2014, the country’s performance in improving the standard of education is on back foot. The enrollment level of students in India is almost universal being 96.7 %, however, throughout the primary level improvement of students is poignant. In 2014, only 48.1% children of Class 5 could read a Class 2 Text, implicating that every second Class 5 student in rural India is unable to read the text of Class 2.

The present scenario of primary education will affect literacy and human development index of the country strongly. The education policy of the country is tiling on the side of higher education leaving behind primary or school education. This approach must be reshaped directing the emphasis towards school education. The education community must grow strong enough to bring up quality in school learning. The subject of public education in India is ...
... shunned against the backdrop of economic empowerment and the impetus on employment-oriented learning. Skilling student age youths for employment is important; but it cannot be paramount than the need of quality school education.

Child labor in India is a critical issue that has been a backlash to school education. Chronic poverty has been the primary reason for this issue transforming it as an enigmatic social problem. Child labor is more pertinent in urban areas that have more earning opportunities compared to rural areas. In fact, the problem has augmented to such a scenario that abductions, kidnapping and child trafficking have increased across the nation in order to fetch the nefarious industry.

Another reason of the languid school education in India is lack of talents in the sector. Primary education sector of the country has failed to attract talents due to multiple reasons. Educated professionals, also due to the lower pay grade, look down teaching jobs at primary schools. Moreover, in India there exist schools that cannot pay regular remuneration to teachers, especially in rural areas.

However, privatization of education has brought new hope to the sector with top boarding schools in India mostly clustered around urban centers.
School education India must be reinvigorated with public initiatives and a massive change at the complete administrative set up. Only a developed primary education infrastructure in the country could ensure standard education to children shaping them to be quality human resource.
