Before they start to fight Gertrude gives the news of Ophelia's death who has drowned herself unable to bear the pain of her father's death.

While fighting, Laertes wounds the prince with the sword. The prince then injures Laertes with the same sword and as both are about to die, Laertes discloses the plan of Claudius and they reunite again. Hamlet then kills Claudius and Fortinbras become the prince of Denmark, the next successor to the throne. The play thus comes to an end with the prince regaining his honor.
