Pros And Cons Of Being A Nurse Practitioner
With the many jobs available in our constantly blooming economy, each and every one of us has got the option to pick where we go in terms of career. If you've had your mind on being a nurse practitioner but don't know the ups and downs of it all, then this article is for you.
Like everything else, the occupation of a nurse practitioner has got two sides; the pros and the cons of it. Starting off with the pros, holding this occupation gives you the satisfaction of knowing that the reason you wake up every day helps those who are sick and in need are getting better with your help. It is a noble and gives you the talent of bringing help, aid and care to those who really need it.
In addition to that, depending on area of specialty and the years of experience, a nurse practitioner can earn between 72,000 to $100,000 annually. Also, they would be given the benefits of lower cost medical and dental privileges and for some, even zero cost. Nothing gets better than having your financials covered for medical expenses. Besides that, the healthcare industry is one that is constantly growing, and unlike a doctor's assistant, ...
... nurse practitioners are free to open up their own practices under certain guidelines. This gives them the chance to run their own sectors, be their own boss and make twice as much in terms of income.
Of course it's not all about the perks as there are downfalls as well. considering the amount one gets paid, something it may not be enough seeing how work can get pretty tiring on some days. Working hours pretty much resemble ones of a doctor and could call for working double shifts as well. This would mean being on your feet twice as long, seeing to patients and not having a chance to sit down.
In addition to that, since nurse practitioners work on a shift schedule, night duties may be called for and you would need to make alterations to your daily routines and stay awake during the night to be at work. Aside from that, not all patients are sweet natured and polite as we would want them to be. There would be a handful of difficult patients who may give you a hard time and not appreciate your efforts.
