Physician Assistant (PA) Training is a compulsory and important process in the determination of you successfully becoming a PA. In order to secure a pass in PA training, there are two important facts you must first know.

Firstly, you must know and demonstrate what the expected characteristics of a PA are, i.e. a "heart" to serve patients, self-motivated, good bedside manner, emotional stability, ability to make decisions in emergencies, and determined in study throughout their career to keep up to date with the medical issues.

The second fact is to understand the working environment of a PA. When there is no emergency or surgery, the work of PA is usually in a comfortable and well-lighted environment. However, when the red lights are on, PA's job becomes tedious as you need to stand for long hours and requires quick and alert actions. PA's working schedule is not fixed. You can be working round the clock and may be on call anytime.

As a result of the above, time management becomes a key factor in determining your success. You need to allocate your time properly and effectively between study, work, leisure ...
... and personal life. As a PA, you need to be 100% focus when performing your duty as you cannot afford to make any mistake. Hence, always plan ahead and avoid last minute work. Also, due to the tense and intensity of your job, you should allocate time to relax yourself as "all work and no play makes PA a dull boy".

Next, there's a saying that "a day without reading is a day gone". The job of PA requires continuous reading and development. You need to read constantly as you advance in order to stay competitive and familiar with medicine terms and latest technology in medical industry.

Last but not least, communication skills - an essential factor in determining the success of all jobs. A PA needs to communicate to the patients and their family members, nurses, doctors, and other members in the hospital. Effective communication skills will assist you to perform your task more efficiently. If this is something you need to work on, start enhancing it now.
