With a billion people currently living in the country out of which a large majority is between the ages of 20 to 30, demand for jobs has never been more competitive. Due to these factors, higher education plays an extremely important role in providing students with the opportunities to fulfill their dreams and land their dream jobs. It is believed that India’s higher education system is the third largest in the world and is likely to surpass the US in the next five years. The higher education system has seen tremendous growth with the number of universities increasing from a meager 20 in 1950, to 677 in 2014. Yet this quantity has not been able to give rise to many quality universities. The availability of quality higher education in Indian universities is painfully low forcing students to look abroad for options.

The problem that arises here is that most students cannot afford the fees demanded by universities abroad. India has its own list of top universities which are famous for their high standards and quality of education. Delhi University (DU), Mumbai University, IIT- Delhi, IIT- Bombay, IIT- Guwahati, and University of Calcutta are some of the few popular universities present in India. There are a huge variety of courses for students to choose from based on their likes. The issue arises with the fees. A large number of students who come from low income backgrounds though eligible for the course; fail to make it into the university as their budgets cannot afford the fees charged. There are several scholarships for higher education that have been designed specially keeping in mind such students.

The application process to apply for a higher education scholarship is fairly simple. Some of the basic requirements are your 10th and 12th final mark sheets, score cards of any qualifying exam undertaken such as, GRE, GMAT ,CAT, etc. reference letters, a copy of the letter confirming admission to the university and a copy of the latest income tax return of the parents. If you have been selected, you will be informed immediately about the details of the scholarship. Obtaining a degree in the course you love is no longer impossible.
