Social development is a cohesive approach taken forward towards the enlightenment of impoverished and neglected sections of the society. Since, there are significant numbers of people under different communities which face tremendous financial crisis without any medium to progress. Not just that, they are far away from basic amenities like food, water and electricity. States or regions or countries or the world altogether cannot proceed towards by ignoring these underprivileged communities. A collaborative participation of public towards social development in Odisha can bring surprising change and improvements in those lives.

Focus Areas of Social Work in Rural Communities of Odisha

There are several focus areas which can be supported for the societal upliftment of marginalized rural communities of Odisha. Few of them are briefly explained below:-

An extensive plan to introduce the higher levels of education can be a part of social development in Odisha and enhance the lives of those children. Moreover, students must be motivated continuously till they achieve their objectives and goals.

Women and Children: An issue that truly needs to be handled equally with all others for social work in rural communities of Odisha. Malnutrition is an issue which causes death of over a million of children in India according the surveys of WHO (World Health Organization). It can be handled by educating the women about caring their children and supporting them financially. According to studies, it has been found that mothers in rural areas do not follow certain recommendations for their child’s health which results in unfortunate situations. This can be improved by giving proper advice to take care of child on crucial times.

Skill development: Again a prominent issue of social development of Odisha is the skill development of both men and women. As for men, and especially youth several skill development programs can be conducted to improve their capabilities. They must be encouraged to showcase their talents through different mediums like education, sports or anything else. This will indeed enable them to focus and make them much confident to move ahead in life. Women who do not possess any education or training find it difficult to earn their means of livelihood. It can also be solved, if they are provided with certain training programs or courses on different works like tailoring or any other simple and productive tasks.

Water and Sanitation: Poor sanitation degrades the hygiene and it ultimately affects the people through diseases. These can be met out by building more number of toilets and develop sewerage systems in the rural areas. Properly treated water bodies and facilities will tackle the health issues.

Apart from all of the above, there are several concerns which can be managed effectively through close coordination of the public.
