Do you have an idea about how much harm termites can cause? They are surely a threat to any kind of thing made up of wood. They decompose wooden items and other articles created from cellulose base. They happily expand their colony into your wooden walls, cabinets, furniture or even the wooden flooring. Of course, prevention is better as well as much cheaper than trying to eliminate termites after their invasion. Actually, the complete anti-termite treatment starts with the construction of a house or building but most of people are not aware of this.
Pre-construction anti-termite treatment
This type of treatment is considered as most effective way to prevent termite invasion in buildings or homes. It is done at the time of construction. In this method soil under the foundation is treated with chemicals. A chemical barrier is formed between ground and brickwork of the foundation to avoid termites’ access to the building. Pre-construction anti-termite chemical treatment can be done in following manner-
- Before starting construction work, eliminate existing wood, stumps, mulch, logs, roots or other cellulose ...
... containing substances from the projected foundation or construction site. Fill bottom and sides of dig portions of all walls with anti-termite chemical.
- Treating soil with termite killing agents is a step towards site preparation. Typically this step includes digging a channel around the border of the foundation and then using a chemical and water emulsion to the soil in the trench in order to fill it back using sprayer.
- The third way to do termite proofing during pre construction of a structure is to create a physical barrier that termites cannot enter through. Typically, galvanized steel barrier or a few inches thick concrete layer can be used.
- To treat the soil under plinth protection and around pipe, make holes into the earth and fill them with chemicals.
- At ground level, treat expansion of joints with anti-termite chemical treatment.
- Treat door frames with chemical before fixing them into the building.
Post construction anti-termite treatment
Post construction anti-termite treatment is conducted after the completion of the construction of the building. This normally consists of re-using termeticides to the soil around the foundation. Also treat the floors of the rooms by making holes under floors and fill them with chemicals to get rid of termite invasion at your home. Use chemicals at the joints of floors and walls. Treat outer boundary of the building by creating 300 mm deep holes and fill them with chemicals to create a barrier around building or the house.
