Olbia - The Ancient Town Of Sardinia

Olbia, with over 54.000 inhabitants, is the capital of Gallura, a large region of north-east of Sardinia. The dialect is the Gallurese, an essentially Corsican dialect. Olbia-Tempio province has an area of 3,397 kilometers ² and has a total of 26 Municipalities: Aggius, Aglientu, Allah dei Sardi, Arzachena, Berchidda, Bortigiadas, Buddusò, Calangianus, Golfo Aranci La Maddalena, Loire Porto San Paolo, Luogosanto, Luras, Monti, Olbia, Oschiri, Padru, Palau, Sant'Antonio di Gallura, Santa Teresa Gallura, Telti, Temple Pausanias, of Trinity Agultu and Vignola.
Olbia, according to a local legend, is a very ancient town founded by the Greeks. The name "Olbia" means a "happy town" (Italian = citta' felice) even though the city's past has been rather difficult. The town of Olbia lies in a natural gulf delimited by the splendid islands of Tavolara and Molara.
