How To Pack On Muscle Mass By Skipping Workouts
To be successful, you need to have discipline and consistency. For almost everything, I agree with the old adage "80% of success is showing up."
If you want to pack on muscle mass, it's no different. Sticking to your workout schedule is very important, even when it's the last thing on your mind.
Hmmm Really?
Here's a tip
Consistency is paramount. Yes, if you want to pack on muscle mass you will need to commit to your workout schedule the vast majority of the time.
However, the thing to consider is this-the late Mike Mentzer said, "Rituals have nothing to do with science." One thing to consider is that the human body is a very complex biological "machine," and all workout and recovery periods are not equal.
When you wake up and discover that your muscles ache, you're physically and mentally tired, and have no motivation to train... your body is trying to send you a message.
Why would you force yourself to train to pack on muscle mass in a situation where more recovery time is clearly needed, and when you know that your training performance will be less than optimal? Why would ...
... you ignore the message sent by your body, muscles, and mind telling you to hold off on trying to pack on muscle mass?
Intense weight training is extremely demanding on the body as a whole, and the recovery phase is the best time for your body to add new muscle tissue
Why would you even consider ruining the time when your body can pack on muscle mass?
Why not take an extra day to rest and go to the gym once you feel physically and mentally up for it? What harm could there be?
There is no threat of losing muscle size or strength, as these decreases require two or more weeks of inactivity to be set into motion. On the other hand, you stand to recover completely from your previous workout and maximize your performance during your next workout.
The underlying key is to listen to your body. Rituals truly do not have anything to do with how you pack on muscle mass, and if it feels obvious to you that additional rest is needed, take it.
Don't force your body into another battle with the weights if it clearly is not ready to do so. Whoever said you should "never skip a workout" obviously didn't know the facts.
Tread lightly, though...
Remember, this isn't permission to only train to pack on muscle mass when you want to, because you may start delaying your workouts and telling yourself it's okay when in fact it is not. There are many times that you won't want to train to pack on muscle mass just because you aren't up for it mentally, but that's not what I'm talking about.
I'm simply talking about those days where you are able to sense that from a physical standpoint, taking an extra day of rest would be the better course of action. Just remember... there is no long-term harm in taking an extra day of rest, but there IS the very real and immediate harm of training your body to pack on muscle mass without being fully recovered first.
Remember, if your body is begging you to, you need to take the day off!
