A large amount of work and dedication was required to obtain the certification. While Puerto Vallarta's beaches were already very clean, the certification has purposely been made very difficult to obtain - a fact which speaks even more for Puerto Vallarta's accomplishment. The effort will be on-going, in order to maintain the certification. Besides this effort the city is also planning to improve signs, access for people with disabilities, implement educational measures and public awareness for care of the environment.
