Anyone who is thinking of buying a second home or Retiring in Mexico will want to know about the safety of the community where they are buying - and rightly so. For that reason, people thinking of buying Lake Chapala Real Estate will be happy to know that the towns of Chapala and Ajijic are among the safest that could exist.

Many American and Canadian families own real estate in Ajijic and Chapala; safety for their children could hardly be less of a worry. Most residents, Mexican and non-Mexican alike, let their children play freely outside. The towns have a very strong sense of community values, focused on family and safety.

What Canadian would even imagine leaving their doors unlocked while they were away? Even in small towns, most lock the doors when they are at home. Yet this Canadian couple felt secure enough at first to leave doors unlocked at all times, and only after the incident did they take the security measure of locking up when no one was at home to prevent an easy grab.

There are also some incidences where people have robbed purses or wallets on the street. But violent robberies are unheard-of, and the few thieves around use little tricks to distract people while a partner grabs the wallet or the purse. The pick pockets are likely to just run away if they see that you know what is going on. The basic tip of not excepting help from a stranger will keep you clear of these incidences; in Ajijic or Chapala this is not difficult, since the small town setting allows you to recognize people that are not regulars in the neighborhood.

Crime in Ajijic and Chapala have been described as "inconsequential" and even the most trusting residents only have to use "common sense" to avoid being pick pocketed; Canadian and American residents of the area generally feel that crime is much less of a worry here than back home.

When buying real estate, this level of safety makes an incredible difference in our choice of community, and how much security we need in the property we are going to buy. While some level of home security (locks, gates, etc.) is always a good idea, it eases your mind as buyer, knowing that this is not the first aspect you have to consider, causing you worries or concerns. Besides offering a relaxing, natural setting, Lake Chapala Real Estate offers the security to be fully at ease, and relaxed in this setting.
