Agri Reach Curbs Post Harvest Losses

On an average, India looses more than 10% percent crop yield during the period between production and consumption annually. The magnitude is so high that even after having the advantage of highly fertile land, agriculture has been losing its sheen, primarily due to the lack in sufficient supply chain systems in place.
One reason that has dawned upon the sector and has been worrying farmers for some time now is proper storage solutions. Ironically, when we think of crop storage, we still think of warehouses and infrastructure development, which is now an age old phenomena. Building infrastructure that can cater to crop storage at every nook and corner of the country is a capital intensive process and structurally poses a huge challenge.
Then there are other factors that have to be looked upon like insurance, climatic conditions, pest conditions, transportation feasibility etc which means higher investments that ultimately are passed to the farmer.
But ignoring the need to develop infrastructure for storage, Agri-Logistics Group Sohan Lal Commodity Management has laid down emphasis on scientific warehouse ...
... management irrespective of the infrastructure. Demonstrating scientific warehousing processes, SLCM has been able to bring down post harvest losses to mere 0.5 percent and has successfully replicated its model across states and international geographies. An asset light model has helped them in managing more than 720 warehouses in India across 17 states, where each warehouse demands a mere investment of Rs 35,000 approximately.
After eight years of rigorous research, the evolution of SLCM is such that they need just 48 hours to step in and commence warehousing operations at any infrastructure. They focus on the process and the technology, rather than the infrastructure.
Ensuring best practices in Corporate Governance, SLCM covers a gamut of inspection services with 36 audits in total for agri-produce, which includes Weekly checks that are carried out by internal & external auditors who are remotely tracked in defined geo-fenced regions and the information relays instantly to the group headquarters in New Delhi. The Group, which is ISO 9001: 2008 & ISO 22000: 2005 Certified, is also the first company in private sector to get WDRA certification. SLCM is the one and only service provider in India which is accredited with three leading national exchanges - MCX, ACE & NMCE out of four present in the country. The only exchange left is NCDEX to which they have already initiated the process for listing.
