Why Should You Consider Conducting Periodic Background Check?

While a pre-employment background check may have shown a clean record, that may no longer be the case. It is obvious that a lot can change to an employee during his or her tenure after the initial background screening. Here comes the necessity of periodic background check.
Conducting periodic background checks on your existing employees is just as important as the initial background check in protecting the safety of your other employees, your customers, and your company.
Re-screening your existing employees shows that you are dedicated to practising your due diligence and protecting your workplace. Re-screening can be a part of that effort and help you mitigate risk. There are instances when companies have been dragged to court for failing to perform periodic background checks on their employees whenever an employee is guilty of workplace violence or other dangerous acts. In order to address such issue later on, an organisation should uncover a potential problem before it comes into the surface.

... background verification can be of utmost importance when an organisation can consider promoting tenured employees. Promotion of an employee may increase his or her access to company funds, sensitive information and decision making responsibilities. In such cases, a more thorough background check process makes more sense rather than depending on the initial screening.
It is very important to run re-screening on existing employee when an employee commits any misconduct or violates any of organisational policy. This can include things such as misuse of company funds, harassment, and other behaviours detrimental to your company. In such cases, a re-screening of the particular employee can prove whether the employee is guilty of actions that need to be addressed. With a change in the current address, arises the need of re verifying the chances of criminal records at the address last resided.
Under such circumstances, re-screening of employees becomes very crucial which can ensure that the employee hasn’t undergone a change which works against the interests of the organisation. Regular screening of employees at regular intervals will also discourage an employee to involve in any unscrupulous activities that will mitigate the risks associated with employees to a great extent. Thus, periodic background verification goes a long way towards demonstrating the commitment of the company to due diligence by staying informed and being proactive.
