Excessive hair growth in women, can be controlled with Spearmint Tea, recently proven by Turkish researchers interviewed by BBC News.
Drinking the tea twice a day, reduced levels of male sex hormones, which can cause excessive hair growth (hirsutism) on the stomach, breasts and face often experienced by PCOS sufferers.

Conventional treatment for hirsutism, involves strong drugs to reduce the levels of androgen or male hormones in the female body and Spearmint tea could be a safe natural alternative. Hirsutism is not a serious medical concern but excess hair growth in women can cause embarrassment.Women produce small amounts of the male sex (androgen) hormones, which includes testosterone, but it is the over production of the hormones that lends itself to excessive facial hair growth.

21 volunteers with hirsutism, twelve of whom had Polycystic Ovaries Syndrome, were given spearmint tea twice a day for five days in the follicular (when the ovarian follicle develops) phase of their menstrual cycle. The tea is simply made by pouring boiling water over one heaped teaspoon (5g) of dried leaves, and leaving it for ...
... five to 10 minutes to infuse.

The researchers found a significant decrease in free testosterone in the bloodstream and an increase in several female hormones including follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). There was no decrease in overall testosterone levels, suggesting that more of the hormone was bound to protein in the bloodstream and was inactive. Spearmint affect's the metabolism of hormones such as testosterone and directly affect synthesis of androgen hormones, research suggest. So excess facial hair due to excess free hormones circulating can be treated affectively with Spearmint tea.

"Current therapies use either oral contraceptives to suppress androgen production, or medications such as spironolactone that prevent the body responding to androgen but does have other unwelcome side effects for some women - but this study shows that spearmint could be a good natural alternative for women who have mild to modorate symptoms. If you suffer from hirsutism or polycystic ovary syndrome you may be offered various strong hormones to treat the symptoms which seem to work for some but not others. Spearmint tea may be a safe, natural, effective treatment that you can brew up in your own kitchen! This revelation will be extremely helpful for women who don't respond well to synthetic hormonal treatments.
