With some of the prestigious and premier universities in India, having lots of colleges under its umbrella, getting admission into these colleges can become quite challenging. There is a lot of competition around, but the colleges have a quota for foreign students also. And, the courses offered by the colleges are various. There are all kinds of disciplines, and study courses available, and the student can choose any course, which meets his criteria and eligibility.

School education:

Even at the school level, the education system is divided into three main segments, primary section, secondary section, and the senior secondary section. Then, there is the higher education. The elementary education includes around 8 years of education. The secondary level lasts for 4 years, and the senior secondary level is additional 2 years.

Higher Education:

The Higher education starts off after completing the senior secondary school, or the 12th Standard. Based upon what you choose to study, getting a degree might take anywhere between 3 to 5 years. While the normal Bachelor’s degree in Arts, Commerce or Science would take 3 years, the Engineering courses, medical courses and architecture courses can stretch up to 5 years. The postgraduate degrees would be around 2 or 3 years long. After doing the post-graduation, the students can also choose to do a doctorate or research in the various institutes.

The universities are limited in number, as compared to the number of applicants. So, the universities work along with affiliated colleges. The colleges provide education and also issue degrees to the students, under the affiliated university’s name. With more than 17000 colleges and 20 central universities, along with 217 state level universities and 105 deemed universities, India definitely offers a great deal to the students. Also, there are 13 Institutes of great national importance. The number of colleges and universities keeps growing, in a rapid manner.
