Onychomycosis is better known as toenail fungus. The most common symptom of this condition is the thickening and discolouring of nails. The condition may begin as white or yellow spot under the tip of the toe nail. Some more types of nail fungal infections would make the toe nail have different type of appearances. Infected nail can be very painful and have some foul odour. It may be harmless at first but if not taken care of properly, the skin can become inflamed.

• Medicated nail polish: Medicated nail polish is particularly used for nail fungal infections. The person facing this issue on the toe nail has to apply it on the nails like nail colour around the affected area once in a day. After a week they can remove the applied polish and then apply a fresh coat. This kind of treatment should continue for one year.
• Nail cream: Another treatment for the nail fungus is the nail cream. An anti fungal cream if rubbed over the infected area after trimming the nails can prove an effective one to put an end to both the pain and infection.

Other Treatments with invasive procedures:

Surgery to remove nail: When nail infection is associated with severe pain, the doctors would advice removal of nails. When the nail is removed it automatically re-grows in the same place. But it can take some time to grow again to full length.
Laser method: Another method is using laser to cure fungal infection under the nail. But this is kind of treatment is very expensive but the results under this treatment are good.

Vinegar is best home remedy that has been used for a long time. Take white vinegar, a basin to soak your feet and a towel to dry. Add the white vinegar to basin and immerse your toe nails by plunging your feet in. This should be done on the daily basis until the infection is completely gone.
