Kids’ Room Decor Guide: Do’s And Don’ts Of Designing A Nursery

Are you expecting a new addition to your family? Planning to design a baby’s nursery for the first time but don’t know how to get started? Check out some do’s and don’ts of creating a nursery for your baby, making it safe, playful and functional.
Designing a nursery to welcome your little one or remodeling your young childs’ room is so much fun. The desire to create a warm, beautiful and fun place for them in the house is something that feels so special and exciting. Although an amazing feeling, there is a lot think about- the stuff babies need, toys, lighting, bedding, furniture and a safe environment. And, this room decor task can turn out to be pretty tough on those who are having a baby for the first time.
But don’t worry, because we are here to help you (especially first time parents) with your kids’ room decor. So take a moment to look at some do’s and don’ts that will help guide you as you design your baby’s nursery.
Do go natural and organic:
Safety is a major concern when it comes to designing a nursery or decorating your kids’ room. While there is a myriad of accessories ...
... and accents used for decoration, many of them- paints, fabrics, finishes, carpeting to name a few, contain harmful chemicals and elements. Needles to say, babies are continuously exposure to the products in their room and coming in contact with such harmful elements can affect their health. So, we recommend when possible to choose organic materials, toys (made of natural materials), solid wood furniture, and cotton sheets and clothes for your kids’ room. Also, opt for non-toxic nursery wall art, stickers, and wallpapers to ensure your kids’ safety.
Do choose a theme or style:
While it is not absolutely necessary to choose a specific theme to design your baby’s nursery, setting up your baby’s room with a specific color scheme or creative theme can make a drastic change in the entire look of the room and help make the design process flow easier. Choosing fun themes, like animals, Disney characters, or nature can help you achieve a cohesive and playful design in the room.
Do use soothing colors and VOC-free paints:
Some paints emittoxic fumes (VOCs) that can are extremely dangerous for health. Consider using VOC-free paints or natural paints that are healthier and less toxic. In addition, avoid using too bright and vibrant colors and go for warm, lighter tones and soothing colors. Like lavender, light pink and light blue to create a calm and relaxing atmosphere.
Don’t clutter with bric-a-brac:
Of course, having a baby for the first time is an amazing and thrilling feeling. You head must be spinning with things you want to buy for your little one- toys, clothes and accessories, but wait! Do not get overexcited and clutter the nursery with so many things. While some of the items you include in the room are useful and helpful, others just become a waste of money and make the space congested and crowded. So avoid buying unnecessary items no matter how charming they look and keep the room simple with some functional and essential objects.
Don’t over decorate:
Again, do not get carried away with the excitement and thrill of having a newborn in your home. Make the nursery a safe and peaceful place where you baby can rest and feel comfortable.
