Fire is one of the leading causes of property losses in the world. Not only that a large number of human lives been put to danger by fire. Even though there are natural fires, most damages are due to man-made fires. These fires when breakout in populated areas can wreck havoc and amount to massive destruction. To safeguard your property from accidental fires, engineers have come up with various kinds of building materials. These building materials such as protective coatings, resins and hydrates combat a fire breakout to prevent the damage of your building. Nullifire for example, is an intumescing material provider that produces paints to protect steelwork. An intumescent is a substance that swells on exposure to heat. Intumescent paint contractors specialize in protecting steelwork and woodwork.

The products used by intumescent paint contractors are similar to that of a paint finish. Under normal conditions it remains stable. During a fire, due to the increase in temperature, the material expands and forms an insulating foam all over causing the fire to stop spreading. The insulating foam, also known as ‘char’ is ...
... a poor conductor of heat. It contains hydrates, which on contact with fire, release water vapour. This has a cooling effect and prevents heat transfer. Nullifire coatings protect steelwork by preventing the temperature of the steel to rise to its critical point. They also help in preventing heat propagation on timber surfaces.

Another product that intumescent paint contactors use is ‘hard char’. Substances such as sodium silicates and graphite are used in plastic pipes which on contact with fire start to melt, squeeze and shut thus leaving no space for the fire to propagate. These are mainly used for fireproofing exterior steelwork and are unsuitable for interior fireproofing. Water-based Nullifire coatings are best for semi-exposed steelwork buildings. Earlier, used solvent-based paints had various setbacks like emissions which caused health hazards. Water-based coatings are odourless and emission free.

There are various other advantages of water-based Nullifire products. They are environment friendly, require no special treatments, have low VOC content, low waste production and have a hard finish. Intumescent paint contractors have knowledge about the right kind of products that improve the quality of the service and can be applied very easily and dry fast. The swelling or expansion of the coating occurs mainly due to melamine, ammonium polyphosphate, starch, pentaerythritol etc. These substances crosslink and solidify to form the insulating foam.

Combating fire means not only protecting the property but also saving lives. When searching for intumescent paint contractors, you need to look for licensed professionals with ample experience that you can rely upon. Contractors that are government approved go through a series of examinations to qualify for the license. These examinations make sure that the company is using the best quality products for preventing fire. A thorough research before investing is a must. Visit some building both commercial and otherwise and ask for their fire safety contractor. Make sure that you use Nullifire products in your building construction that assures up to 120 minutes of fire protection.

Nullifire is a sealant that prevents fire. Intumescent paint contractors have various products to combat a fire breakout.
