Once a room has been fully prepared for installation of cork flooring and all requisite measurements taken appropriately, then the process of installing cork flooring begins by putting the first course in place. Piecing together this course requires one of the planks to be lifted from the floor to some inclination after which its end is slid into that of another adjacent plank. This is followed by gentle pressing to facilitate clicking together of the groove and the tongue. The process continues with each of the next plank being fitted one end to the other until this course is filled up. In the event that the last piece needs to be cut then a clumped straight edge is used for guiding while the jigsaw is used to cut the extra piece.

Placement of spacers

Spacers sized at 0.5 inches are placed against the surface of the starting wall after which the first course is slid with the groove side directly facing you and holding tight on the spacers. It is important that due care be given to the patterns of colors of the planks to allow for proper grouping and matching of the planks for an impressive view.

Completion ...
... of spacer placements allows for continuation of laying the rest of the planks to fill up the remaining space of the room. If the extra length of the plank cut at the end of the first course exceeds a ten-inch measure then it should be used as the beginner piece for the next course. The end of this plank which was cut is placed against a spacer on the ending of the wall after which its tongue is pushed onto the preceding course that has already been laid. The plank has a tapping block placed against it to allow for groove fitting. A hammer may be used for block tapping in coaxing the groove to click together with the tongue. Other planks continue being placed in an end- to-end format followed by tapping until the remaining space has been fully covered. It’s important that an installed plank be used to weigh down on the floating floor to avoid it moving when tapping.

Installation of the last course and the finishing

Once the remainder of the space has been filled up the last course must be carefully fit in for a final touch. The planks need to be ripped down to width to allow the groove side to be chopped away. It is imperative that the expansion gap of one inch be allowed at this point. Each of the pieces is angled into place after which it is allowed to drop to the floor taking a flat and level inclination. A pry bar is used for hooking the pieces to allow them click in and lock together with the previous row. It is suggested that a table saw be rented to allow for quicker and cleaner cuts when the cork flooring is to be done on a large area.

Once the last course has been installed, the finishing step in installing cork flooring requires for the floor to be trimmed out reducing any excesses and making any final adjustments as may be required.
