If there ever is a place where overseas visitors are treated like royalty it is in Kerala's most treasured beach resort, Kovalam. Here, a beach segment is set apart for the foreign visitors for their privacy and convenience and is aptly named the Hawa Beach.

Hotels fit for Rajas, small ethnic restaurants, stalls selling handicrafts and curios, Ayurveda parlours giving soothing rejuvenating medicated oil massage by trained girls and men are some alluring facilities available for visitors.

For the epicureans the place is a delght. All cuisine one finds in four corners of the world are available, but the pure, ethnic dishes, especially Kerala's very own mashed tapioca and fish curry, is something even the most fastiditious must give a try. The cool western winds add to the salubrious ambience, enhancing the pep and vigor. Beaches and boulders present enough places for you to roam about, share love or muse on the life and cosmos.

At dawn, if you are the one who likes to have a take of the local air, a cornucopia of outdoor pursuit to nearby villages and cultural spots await you. The State Capital Trivandrum City is hardly 15 kilometers and a visit to the city's historical royal structures from where the Maharaja of Travancore once ruled, its small but beautiful zoo and museum will be rewarding. Further some 40 kilometers to the east of Kovalam, you could get the whiff of Agates hill and forests, Trivandrum's botanical garden where you get to know the exotic plants and flowers with amazing medicinal properties.

Fill your soul with spiritual food too. The Trivandrum district where Kovalam falls is a temple town. The very name is derived from Ananatha, one of Hinduism's trinity. There are scattered over many smaller temples of yore and also churches and Christian institutions.

If all this sounds austere enough, it is not really. Those among you who want to loafer around the beach and boulders are free to indulge in, nay encouraged.

A guest who stays this heavenly abode for a few days will leave with a longing for more prolonged stay at another occasion.
