London Housing Construction Contracts Up For Grabs

People with qualifications from bricklaying courses or with electrician training could benefit from a new framework for the construction of new housing in London.

According to cnplus.co.uk, nearly 30 construction firms are competing for four positions on the £348 million framework in the London Borough of Hackney, which will cover house building and maintenance work.

The website reported that the four-year deal, which is being organised by the local authority's Hackney Homes, is attracting a strong amount of interest because of the recession.

This latest framework covers phase three of Hackney's Decent Homes programme in addition to plans for renewal works at up to 31,525 council properties.

Project manager Nick Walker was quoted by cnplus.co.uk as saying: "We want to make [the tender process] as sharp as possible. It's an expensive business for us and for contractors."

Meanwhile, the Scottish Prison Service has announced that Carillion Construction Limited will build a new prison in the country to be known as HMP Low Moss.
