Playa del Carmen Real Estate offers a broad range of Mexico's rich culture heritage, and makes it accessible to people from many parts of the world who have chosen Playa del Carmen as their home. Coming up very shortly, the Playa del Carmen Real Estate area will soon be offering one of the richest traditions in Mexico's culture - the Day of the Dead. Although it is celebrated during the last two days of October, carrying over to November 2, this celebration offers traditions very different from Halloween. Each year at this time, many Mexicans honor family and friends who have passed away recently. They celebrate the memory of their lives, serving traditional food, special for the occasion, and creating offerings or "altars" - a display of items which were important in that person's life, pictures, handcrafts and their favorite foods.

Traditions across Mexico vary, and each year Xcaret - an "eco" theme park in the Playa del Carmen Real Estate region - brings together rich traditions from various parts of the country. From October 30th to November 2nd, Xcaret will dress itself in tradition, legend, music and altars ...
... for the dead. With an investment of over ten million pesos, the Day of the Dead is celebrated in Xcaret through the effort of volunteers, artists and Mayan communities in Quintana Roo, sharing traditions and displaying the great mosaic of cultures that come together in Mexico.

Xcaret's "Festival of Traditions of Life and Death" seeks to develop and integrate a yearly encounter where a cultural reconnection is established at all levels and through the active participation of communities in the region with the unique Day of the Dead traditions from each area, in order to show all its diversity, both ancient and modern.

During these 4 days, from 4 pm to 11 pm there will be visual arts, exhibitions of offerings for the dead, traditional food shows, workshops for children and youth, interactive tours, music, dance, ritual, theater and the traditional Day of the Dead mass.

Like every year, the highlight is undoubtedly the participation of the Mayan communities of Quintana Roo who come to share their traditions through community theater works, offerings for the dead, traditional meals for this celebration, crafts and music.

Likewise, the state of Yucatan will be present as a special guest. The "Yucatecos" will share: crafts, made with wood, agave cactus, bone, fruits, seeds, etc.; altars, presented by the municipalities Tixmeuac, Celestun and Tixcacalcupul; casts of artists and performers (poets, storytellers, singers); music (traditional and symphonic); presentations (Mayan theater, dance and lectures) and a gala gourmet (Yucatecan food, special for this celebration and new regional food). The representatives total 262 people.

Back by popular demand, Don Ignacio Lopez Tarso, Mexico's leading actor, will play "Macario, the Godson of Death" in a simple, funny and touching show.

The concert "Puno de Tierra", a popular repertoire, was selected by Eugenia Leon - a famous Mexican "Trova" musician. This piece emerged in central and north of the country, from the area around Jalisco to the northern areas of Mexico near the border, and covers a very well selected set of songs from the era of the Mexican Revolution, through the golden age of Mexican cinema, and up to this day.

Especially for children, there will be a children's theater with the work "Trupus Calacus" of the group "Trouppe", led by Mauro Mendoza, with 13 artists on stage. There will be the premiere of the play "La Danza de las Animas", theme of the Festival, composed by Maestro Andres Campos. The music will be provided by an ensemble of the National Youth Orchestra of Yucatan, Xcaret singers and the Xcaret k'ay group. Among "catrinas" - traditional skeleton dolls, representing death - candles, offerings for the dead, the famous mukbipollo tamale and artistic exhibitions, there will be a living festival that will honor death the Mexican way.

The Playa del Carmen Real Estate area offers a taste of Mexico's rich traditions. To find out more about living in Playa del Carmen and finding real estate in this area, see the TOPMexicoRealEstate blog.
