3 Common Mistakes Most Beginning Trout Fishermen Make.

When you get that feeling to do some trout fishing be sure to check out Ontario. Be it river, stream or lake fishing Ontario can not be beat for it's freshwater trout fishing

.

Fishing for trout is quite easy once you learn some basic facts on the subject. I have over 50 years of experience catching trout so here are three mistakes you should avoid, so that you can catch more trout.

#1 Fishing for Trout Where There Are No Trout.- Over the years, while driving the back roads looking for the best trout fishing spots, I have ran into people that are just fishing in spots where no self respecting trout would live.

For example if you are out Brook trout fishing, you need to look for a stream that is clear, clean and usually spring-fed. So if you are fishing a dirty muddy colored stream, and it hasn't rained for a few days, you are fishing in the wrong spot for Brook trout.

#2 Fishing To Close To The Bank Of A Trout Stream.- Let's say it's the opening day of the trout fishing season. So you grab your trout tackle ...
... and head to your favorite spot to do some river trout fishing. What most beginner fishermen do is walk along the side of the stream or river peering over the bank to see if they can see any fish to catch.

The problem with this if you are trout fishing, you have probably spooked the fish before you even get started.

The best thing to do is to stay clear of the river banks and cast into the river from a few feet back so that the trout will not hear you or see you. Or just jump right into the stream and start fishing, making sure that you are casting and walking upstream.

#3 Using The Wrong Trout Tackle- The most common mistake you see that beginner trout fisherman make is to use the wrong sized rod and reel. Then they load the reel up with about 20 pound test and wonder why they can't catch any trout.

I have also seen beginners fishing flies that you would think would be more suited for marlin fishing. Trout flies are usually smaller in size representing insects and other bugs that the trout feed on daily. As far as a rod and reel go, a nice ultra-light rod and reel with about 4 to 6 pound test would be ideal.

These are just a few mistakes that beginner trout fisherman or fisher ladies often make. There's much more to learn on the subject of trout fishing so that you can have a successful day on the water.
