In relation to male fertility there has been an alarming increase in terms of the infertility rate with figures being quoted in the region of 2.5 million men in the UK as infertile, which equates to approximately one in every six couples.

Throughout history infertility was regarded as a women's issue until the scientific community established that a male genetic factor is held responsible in roughly half of all cases of infertility. This brings out the often almost cliché like used term of whether or not your lifestyle has a part to play with particular reference to drinking and smoking habits. The medical community would certainly discourage couples who are trying to conceive from smoking or drinking. Although there is no current concrete evidence to suggest that smoking and drinking can have any adverse effects on fertility, the long term affect of heavy drinking and alcohol abuse is likely to hinder the prospects of future fertility.

UK men for years have been known for their binge drinking culture, which could now be linked to the increase in the amount of men looking for cures and medical procedures ...
... to help them with their infertility.
One of the most common treatments for infertility is in vitro fertilisation, commonly known in its abbreviated form of IVF. However, this is not cheap, it can cost up to tens of thousands of pounds, results are not guaranteed and do not come with any time frame as this can vary from months to even years.

As already stated IVF treatment can be an expensive process which is the reason more and more couples are looking at alternative IVF clinics abroad which a lot of the time can offer procedures at a reduced cost when compared to UK clinics in certain cases this has been known to be a saving of up to 50%.Another reason why men and women in the UK opt for surgery abroad is due to the UK law about age restrictions. Fortunately for men there is no age restriction but for women they can suffer medical complications when they are above 50 years of age.

A final point to note of the issues discussed is that infertility is a delicate issue and anyone who suffers from this will of course feel emotive about the prospect of not being able to have children. However through medical practices and research, new treatments are regularly coming to the fore and although there is no certain cure for infertility as long as there are treatments such as IVF couples will continue to seek any help from resources which may increase their chances of conceiving.
