Fire prevention and safety are quite possibly the most important element of a young child's education. Our children learn about fire safety at school, but it is also necessary to reinforce that knowledge at home on a regular basis. These are some of the most important points of fire safety.

The most important principle is to use smoke detectors. Contrary to popular belief, most people who die in fires actually die from smoke inhalation, not from fire itself. Because of that it is very important to put smoke detectors on every floor of your house and around the sleeping areas. You need as much warning time as possible. But it is very very important to check every smoke detector at least once each month to double check that they are working properly. And even if the smoke-detectors may be working at the current moment, you should always take out the old batteries and insert new ones at least once a year to prevent surprise malfunction.

The second critical element of fire prevention and safety is to make a family evacuation plan. Children learn a school evacuation procedure while at school, but it's of course . The ...
... key motto is to "Be Prepared". Make a floor plan of your home, and plan at least two possible escape routes from each room. That way if one route is blocked, you can use your second route as an alternative. It is very important to select a meeting place outside of your home and at a safe distance, and to teach your kids not to leave the meeting place for any reason, and to never go back into the house.

A third critical aspect of fire safety is that children should never ever pay with fire. Lighters and matches are for adults only. Adults should do their best to keep them out of the reach of children. Children should also be taught to avoid tossing things into the fire place and touching lit candles.

Those are a small number of the most important fire safety principles that kids have to understand. But there are others. You can definitely contact your local municipal authorities and fire department for more more-ranging information. There are also many online resources available.
