Billberry And Its Uses - An Overview
 The Billberry plants reaches a height of 16 inches on full growth. The green branches are sharp edged and the berries black. The ideal time to pick the berries would be when they look wrinkled and that would be lat summer. The billbery is a distant cousin of the cranberry, blueberry and huckleberry as far as looks and tastes are concerned. The billberry has been used not only as medicine for centuries but has also found its use in making jams and in pies. The Billbery fruits contain anthocyanosides which are plant pigments exceptionally high in antioxidant properties. The high antioxidant properties of the billberry fruits make them excellent warring agents against free radicals that cause harm to the body leading to diseases like cancer, heart diseases,artherosclerosis, diabetes and even eye disorders. High in vitamin C another great antioxidant, the billberry is very effective as medicine.

Billberry extracts are used to treat blocked clots in the  veins in legs and to help clear blocked arteries in the heart. Another area where the fruit has found its use is in the treatment of eye disorders like macular degeneration and cataract.
Billberries can be eaten raw, plucked fresh from the plants or can be consumed in their dried form. Billberry tea can be made using the dried or fresh fruits and is a great astringent. Â
