Messiah is a Hebrew word and it stands for Christ in Christian context. It also means ‘anointed one’ which further means to be pure or to be sanctified. In the Old Testament this term has been used for prophets, priests and judges. It also refers to empowerment to accomplish a task. It is understood then that Christ /Messiah was the only one to be anointed. The belief that he came as a Prophet and he is the high priest, binds both Jewish and Christian theology. It is for this reason that some Christians have begun to adopt Jewish habits and refer to Christ as Messiah or Yahshua as the Jews do. Christians who grew up with the Roman habits are now turning to Hebrew beliefs from the Jerusalem followers of Yahshua and the messianic Christians are now becoming a part of this growing global movement.

The return of the Messiah is also the common growing link of belief that is shared by the Messianic and Christian theology.
