If you haven't yet spent a thought on the central heating, it is high time you do it now. Who doesn't want a cosy home during the chilly winters? But along with the heating, many associated costs are also linked to it. Here are some innovative and creative ways to heat up your home that is also energy saving and cost effective in nature.

• Use a programmable thermostat:

It can be programmed to automatically adjust to the temperature, even when you are not in the house. You can programme it to come on and go off. When it is not manual, it reduces the human errors and other similar inaccuracies.

• Heat your home zone wise:

If you have a large or a multi storey home, you can have multiple 'heating units' in different zones (areas) of your homes. This way, it will allow you to heat only those parts of your homes that are occupied, thus saving energy and money.

• Keep the lights and heating off during the night:

Night is the time when you can save most of energy and money. Also, during the night time, as the temperature outside is colder; it generates more of energy bills. During the ...
... sleeping time, your body generates heat on its own, therefore it too much of a house heating is not required.

• Use space heaters:

Rather than heating the entire house with a central heating system, use space heaters in the individual rooms. They are less expensive than the other heating systems and heat up the room more rapidly than the centralised heating.

• Run ceiling fans in the reverse:

Warm air being lighter raises to the ceiling and gets trapped. For homes with high ceilings, running the fan in the reverse way is very helpful.

• Keep the doors and windows insulated:

During the winters, retaining the heat inside the homes should be the goal. Avoid all types of heat and air infiltration. Specially check below the exterior doors to ensure that cold air does not enter the home. Immediately replace it with a good quality door.

• Keep the heater system in a good working condition and serviced:

The efficiency of all your heating mechanisms depends on the condition of your appliances and their working mechanisms. Have all your equipments checked professionally every year.

• Examine your attic insulation:

Majority of the sunlight is lost through the attic in the ceiling. Make sure that the circulation is enough in the attic.

• Open the windows and let maximum sunshine enter the home:

During the winter, open all your doors and windows and let the sunlight in. maximum sunlight will make sure that the home is warm enough; reducing the heating costs.

• Have all the appliances updated at regular intervals:

Just like summer months, the winter months also mean high energy costs. By following these tips, you can save energy and money at the same time.
