For lovers of fiction; there are some that have overcome the barriers of time and tide. An example is The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, a crime novel created by the late Swedish journalist writer Stieg Larsson. The author is no more and the book was published posthumously in the year 2004 and yet it turned out to be one of the best sellers both in Europe and America. The inspiration came from a real life incidence of rape of his acquaintance Lisbeth in his presence when he was only 15. Yet no one can deny the literary excellence and value of this epoch making novel that was ultimately turned into award winning movie.

The Girl Who Played with Fire

The Girl That Kicked the Hornet’s Nest

With a prologue and four other parts The Girl that Kicked the Hornet’s Nest reveals the storey of a girl who has been captured and confined in a dark room by an unknown person. To address the problem the girl starts mentally replaying an incident when she threw a gasoline filled container on a man and ignited it with a match. The background is set up in the Caribbean Islands and Stieg Larsson again describes the entire episode in his unique masterful way. It is for this the New York Times described the Millennium Series as extremely addicting for readers. They received several awards and were converted into movies but all this happened after the death of Stieg, even the publishing occurred only after his death.

Twilight Saga and Stephenie Meyer

Starting from the year 2008, American author Stephenie Meyer came up with four novels in the Twilight Saga series in quick succession. The movies were among the all time box office hits.

Harry Potter

With as many as seven novels in the series, Harry Potter has been one of the most popular on screen and off screen characters ever to arrive. The craze is particularly prominent among members of younger generations as one of the best fantasy series ever and shot UK born author J. K. Rowling to the height of fame and popularity. Main characters in the stories are Harry Potter, Ronald Weasley and Hermoine Granger; all belonging to school of witchcraft.

Many creations like hunger games are extremely popular in the reading community today but creating a matching sequel to these epics is no mean task. The author taking up the task has to follow the pattern developed by the original writer meticulously and keep up the standard as well. When that happens the sequels are likely to be accepted with open arms by the reading communities.
