Lottery players use a variety of lottery software tools when planning for the next drawing. Lottery software routines that investigate the history of winning numbers make up most of the tools in a lottery toolbox. These tools or programs range from simple and straight forward to the complicated and foolishly complex. Even though serious lottery players each have their own toolbox, there is one tool that all of them share. It is the most basic and fundamental tool of them all. It is simply the chronological listing of the past winning numbers.

Most players accept this as the classical way of viewing a lotterys history. Usually, the winning numbers from one drawing are shown on each line preceeded by the drawing number or drawing date.

It will look something like this:
1 7 10 21 28 37 50
2 16 17 32 34 46 47
3 4 14 24 29 33 42
...

This allows the player to examine the past winning numbers looking for lottery number patterns or trends that can help him prepare his play list for the next drawing. Honestly, I'm not very good at doing this but, I know ...
... of many people who are quite adept at it. They have a incredible ability to see patterns where the rest of us just see a list of numbers.

The Eyes Go First

I know, I know, some of you are saying, 'You've got to be kidding. This is no lottery tool. This is a joke.' Relax there Senior Cynic, there is much more. Mucho mas!

There is one thing that you notice about this table. It looks like an excel spreadsheet. Therefore, using typical database tools can make our search for those elusive lottery number patterns and trends quite a bit easier and, hopefully, more productive. Here are some examples.

One of the complaints I've heard from many lottery players is that as their eyes go back and forth over a drawing, they lose track of their position and have to start over. Of course, after five minutes of this, there is that headache that ensues. For example, let's say a player wants to compare the first column of numbers with the fifth column of numbers. Why? He's looking for any number pattern or trend that could give him an edge.

By simply rearranging the columns, the player reduces eye strain and fatigue. By placing the two columns of interest next to each other, the player would no longer be distracted by the numbers in between. He could also minimize distractions by simply blanking the columns that remain. This affords the player the ability to focus all of his attention on the columns of interest. Players love this feature.

Let's Have Order

A chronological listing present other problems. The first drawing is followed by the second drawing, etc. Why should we look at the drawings in order? Who says we have to view the past winning numbers in that way? Let's think outside the toolbox.

We could sort the database on any column. For instance, sorting column 1 would place all drawings that contain the number 1 together. Wow! Now, that's an advantage. Now it would be much easier to look for any patterns or trends relating to the number 1. And, that's not all. You could also sort column 1 in descending order, placing the largest numbers first.

Remember, we started out with a sequential listing of the winning lottery numbers. Now, we can turn the lottery history inside out with some simple database techniques. This sheds some new light on the lottery's history. It provides the player with many new vantage points.

What's in Your Lottery Toolbox?

These are the lottery tools that you must have in your lottery toolbox.
1. Rearrange the columns to suit.
2. Blank columns that are not of interest.
3. Sort the database in ascending order.
4. Sort the database in descending order.

When you are looking for an advantage, your vantage point can make all the difference. You might be wondering just how many vantage points are there? This may be hard for some of you to grasp but, by mixing and matching these four techniques, there are a phenominal 21,528 possible vantage points for a 6 number lottery! This should open a few eyes.
