This car was named the “2014's World Performance Car” by jurors at this year's New York Car Show. This show is one of the automotive industry's big events, and in order to win the prestigious "World Performance Car" award, a car must compete and win in four separate categories. Contestant vehicles compete in the areas of "Green Car", "Car Design", "Performance Car" and "Car of The Year". The jury panel is comprised of 69 journalists from 22 countries, who are considered to be experts in the field of automotive design and review. The car beat stiff competition in the form of the Chevy Corvette Stingray, and the Ferrari 458 Speciale. This is the fourth time a Porsche product has won the World Car Awards, and much of the appeal for the jurors this time seemed to lie in the redesign of the 911 GT3. The changes include a lighter body, rear wheel handling, and a revamped engine than can reach 60 MPH in just 3.3 seconds, reaching a top speed of 195 miles per hour.

While the reviewer was drawn as well to the car's speed and handling, he praised its more aerodynamic design, which he felt created better road handling, and the car's fuel efficiency, an improvement over earlier generations of this vehicle. Road and Track pointed out that there had been some controversy over Porsche's decision to finally equip this model with an automatic transmission, but assured readers that they wouldn't notice the switchover from manual, and that the vehicle's new dual clutch was an improvement over the older model's stiffer one. He also had high praise for the car's new electrical steering system, noting that "the driver feels everything the tie rods do", and that in varying road conditions, "there's no chance of under steering".

And the love for this sporty new Porsche is being felt across the pond as well, with Great Britain's What Car praising the 911 GT 3 for its powerful motor and chassis.
